Dear Team Member:

Thank you for your hard and dedicated involvement during the 2007-2008 optimist year. You were an important member of the Ohio District Optimist team.

During the year of “Children Are Golden”, the Ohio District was a positive topic of conversation throughout the optimist organization. The clubs have accomplished many projects, reached many goals and most importantly, served many more youth through out Ohio. You shared your ideas and projects with others, expanding the use of great projects into other others of the District. You are to be commended for all of these great efforts.

The Ohio JOOI District also made a big impact. The Ohio JOOI District has been #1 most of the year. Seven JOOI Members went to the Optimist International Convention in Florida, along with chaperones, all had a fabulous time. At this convention, the 2007-2008 Ohio District JOOI President, Peter Von Der Vellen, (Powerful Peter) was elected, from the floor, to serve on the Optimist International Board of Directors. What an accomplishment!

Speaking of JOOI, Past Ohio District Governor Margaret Barclay has been asked to serve on the Optimist International JOOI Committee for the 2008-2009 year. She said has agreed to do so.

Congratulations to Peter and Margaret! We are proud of you both!

Bill and I had a once in a lifetime experience this past year. Thank you for inviting us to attend your meetings, zone meetings, club projects, installations and celebrations. Also, thank you for placing your trust in me, when you elected me your Governor. It will not be known for awhile if the Ohio District achieved the status of Distinguished. If we do, that would be fantastic! If not, we are still a Distinguished District in my heart and mind.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the memories that we will take with us.

Please continue to support Governor Dr. Dennis Morris during his year. Remember to Just Ask!

4th Quarter

July 7th, 2008

Dear Members:

The 4th and final quarter of this optimist year is here. We have accomplished many projects and brought in many new members this year. However, we still have a lot of work to do before the clock strikes midnight on September 30th, 2008.

We still need new optimist members to help serve the youth and the communities. Currently we have deleted 47 more members that we added. We need to turn this around. The Ohio District is a GREAT one and hopefully all clubs and zones will be at least +1 on September 30th.

If you need help in anything, if you would like Bill and I to visit a club meeting, zone meeting or a project, Just Ask. If we can, we will be there.

Important Information

Member and Guests of the Great Ohio District:

Just a reminder that you need to submit your club’s Officer Elect Report to OI no later than May 20th. By doing this, all information will be sent to the current officer begining Oct. 1, 2008.

Be sure register for the 3rd Quarter Conference. Registration this time should be sent to me, the Governor: Sharon O’Neil, 233 Broken Fence Drive, Medina, Ohio 44256.

Also, OI and Ohio District Convention forms are available by going to the the front page of www.ohiodistrictoptimist.org and click on Conventions, this will bring up the information you are looking for.

Congratulations!

Congratulations Ohio District Optimists! We are #10 out of 49 Districts of Optimist International, as of March 31, 2008. Keep up the hard word you are doing by Just Asking!

Update on Zanesville New Club Building…we had to postpone our April 8th meeting until April 22, 2008, due to illness. Update on this new club and the other two we are working on will be coming soon.

Dear Optimists:

As we come to the end of the second quarter, remember that our year is half over! Time sure flies when you are having fun! I am having FUN!!!!!!

We need more members to help more youth! If you need to have a NOW Program (New Optimists Wanted) please ask the Club Services Committee, your Lt. Governor, other clubs who have participated in a NOW Program, and of course, me! We all are available to help your club grow.

We have had our first meeting in forming a new Optimist Club in the Zanesville Area. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 8th, 6:30 pm at the Java House Cafe, on Maple Avenue in Zanesville. Please pass the word along to any one you may know in this area.

Work on another two new clubs will be begin in April. If you are intersted in forming a new club, please contact either Ray Able, NCB Chair or myself. Once again, we are here to help your club and the youth in your area. Two or more clubs (like a Zone) can build a new club! If you need more information, please contact me.

Have you seen the pattern here. Please contact me! I am your Governor but I am here to help in any way possible.

As of January 31, 2008, the Great Ohio District of Optimist International is ranked #11 in membership retention! This is fantastic!

2nd Quarter District Conference

WOW!

What a great turnout for the 2nd Quarter District Conference. We had many new faces attending along with many other members. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to attend. We appreciate each and every member and guest who attended.

We had new and exciting breakout and informative sessions with great attendance at all of them.

Death of a wife of a Past Governor

January 26th, 2008

Just learned today, January 26, 2008, Past Ohio District Governor Clyde Trumbull, lost his wife of 18 1/2 years on March 10, 2007. The District was not notifed at that time.

Please remember Clyde and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
